About Us

ARL was formed in 1990 to develop, service and maintain a long term structural vibration and environmental noise monitoring system for use during the construction of the Governor Macquarie and Governor Phillip towers in the CBD of Sydney. The two year monitoring plan was implemented principally as the means to protect the structural integrity of a series of fragile heritage listed buildings which were situated around the construction site.

The success of this initial project led to the further development of standalone monitoring instruments for noise and vibration.

"...Australia and New Zealand distributor of Rion Co.,Ltd..."

Throughout the 1990’s ARL continued to develop new environmental noise and vibration monitoring solutions including the EL series loggers EL-015, EL-215 and EL-31X. During this time, ARL took on the role as Australia’s sole distributor of Rion Co.,Ltd instruments and has been operating in this capacity ever since. Recently expanding our market to include New Zealand. In 1999 ARL also became a NATA accredited facility for calibration and testing noise instrumentation and equipment.

"...developing advanced monitoring solutions to meet the requirements of an evolving industry..."

Throughout the early 2000s, technology in the field of measurement and acoustics began to advance and as a result ARL’s main engineering activities were focused on developing advanced monitoring solutions to meet the requirements of an evolving industry.

These efforts culminated in the Ngara™ Real Time Sound Acquisition System. The Ngara™ system was developed with a focus on post-processing and has since been successfully deployed in many wide-ranging applications including permanent long-term remote logging and large-scale multi-logger measurement systems.

"...the challenge of developing a modern directional noise monitoring system was met..."

Acoustic Research Lab’s newest and most innovative development for the field of acoustics is the Environmental Noise Compass™. The Environmental Noise Compass™ was developed with the environmental monitoring needs of the Australian and world-wide mining industry in mind. The challenge of developing a modern directional noise monitoring system was met by combining advanced acoustic signal processing with directional beamforming techniques employed in some military sonar systems, culminating in an end-result that is intelligent and low-maintenance.

ARL’s vision for the future involves integrating cloud-computing into the field of acoustic measurement with Noise Cloud™, changing the way users view and store data as well as providing a cross-platform measurement analysis program.
